USC Annenberg Media is a recent entity; its website launched in 2016. It is the current incarnation of the previous main student outlets: Annenberg Radio News, Annenberg T.V. News and Neon Tommy. I am just getting back into writing text-pieces for the outlet; my main role this year was to help with political social media coverage by live-tweeting events such as rallies, speeches and debates. "Los Angeles Vigil Honors Orlando Victims"

For Andrea Ochoa and her wife, the headline about a "mass shooting" Ochoa saw early Sunday morning was a sad but increasingly normal occurrence. But for this particular shooting at an Orlando gay nightclub, which left least 49 people dead and injured 53 others, the couples' emotions ran high.

"My heart sank," Ochoa said. "It was a tough day [Sunday] … it felt personal."

With the race to the White House underway, 29-year-old Quincy Surasmith is among those in his generation whose years of community organizing has made him politically aware since his time at UC Santa Cruz from 2004 to 2008.

 

While in college, Surasmith joined a theater group for people of color and was part of a movement to have ethnic studies, and more recently worked at Asian Americans Advancing Justice in Los Angeles. He is currently one of the organizers for Tuesday Night Project, which is a space for artists and activists to communicate.....
